Recently, has been accepted for publication our case report entitled: Pheochromocytoma in a donkey. Report of case.  

Only a few cases of pheochromocytoma have been reported in horses, but it has been well described in dogs, cattle, and humans the adrenal medulla, which are postganglionic neurons of the autonomic nervous system. The diagnosis of this type of neoplasms can be confusing clinically, since the paraneoplastic signs can be multiple, in many cases it can be diagnosed by incidental necropsy. Given the low incidence of this type of tumors, it is important to describe the case to be considered within the differential diagnoses in equid adults with recurrent colic and progressive wasting.

Sometimes horses die suddenly when they aren’t involved in athletic competition, in recent years the news of collapse and sudden death in horses competing worldwide seems to increase. Last week we published the cases of sudden death in unmedicated equines subjected to high intensity exercise. The sudden death of a horse is a traumatic event, whether on the field of competition or in the home paddock or pasture. This death of horses in competitions drastically affects the horse industry worldwide. We have worked since 2011, in a multidisciplinary way to elucidate the causes of sudden death in horses, and establish preventive measures with Dr. Abelardo Morales (University of Cordoba), Dr. Aniceto Mendez (University of Cordoba), Dr. Thomas Tobin (Gluck Equine Research Center-University of Kentucky), Dr. Kimberly Brewer (Private Practice Florida-USA) and Dr. Richard Galley (Ranch House Road, Willow Park, Tx). Recently the horse Water Jet (Ven, 2007, Water Poet en Fleet Jet by Afleet), has been exalted to the Hall of Fame of the Caribbean Classic, it has been a privilege to see all the races of that horse in the Racetrack La Rinconada, Caracas-Venezuela, including the Classic Caribbean/Caribbean derby, 2010 (Record 1,800mts, 1:48.80) He is currently a stable stallion in Venezuela. The traditional Clásico Internacional del Caribe or Caribbean Derby is the Thoroughbred Grade I stakes race in Latin America for three-year-old thoroughbred horses, held on the month of December. Along with the celebration of the Clásico Internacional del Caribe, four other international races are programmed during the weekend festivities. These races are the Copa Velocidad (Caribbean Sprint Cup) (6f), Copa Dama del Caribe (Caribbean Ladies' Classic) (8.5f), Copa Invitacional del Caribe (10f), and the Confraternity Cup (10f) for 3 & up horses.
